![]() Particular attention has been paid to reducing the shut lines between the different body panels (e.g. Coupled with the generous proportions of the bodywork, the blend of flowing lines also optimizes the visual effect produced by the light reflecting off the body, while the range of metallic paint finishes includes the all-new Spray Blue for the hatch version and sparkling Cayenne Orange for the Coupé. The proportions of both cars, the form of their waistline and their large doors express a feeling of protection, which is especially prevalent in the case of the Coupé. ![]() The wide front and rear tracks (1,546mm/1,547mm) ensure that both the Hatch and Coupé sit squarely on the road and, in the case of the latter, this sense of stability is heightened by its low ride-height (12mm lower) and rear-end styling. Seen from the side, the feature line extends rearward from the slightly prominent front wings to emphasize the car's solid shoulders. Renault Mégane Hatch and Renault Mégane Coupé immediately exude an impression of robustness and quality. The proportions of its flanks are both harmonious and dynamic, and irresistibly suggest forward movement, as well as genuine personality and the promise of real driving enjoyment. The Latin influence of Renault Mégane's elegantly sensual curves is especially visible when seen from the side. The strong character of Renault Mégane is also apparent at the rear where the two-piece light clusters not only continue the feature line but also facilitate easy access to the boot. Meanwhile, the streamlined forms of the headlamps extend the fluid contours of the air-intakes to reinforce Renault Mégane's determined expression and piercing gaze. Its assertive personality is immediately apparent through its racy front-end looks which feature crease lines that sweep down from the windscreen pillars and across the bonnet. The result is a family hatchback of 4,295mm in length with an unmistakably dynamic stance thanks particularly to its short front and rear overhangs, its wheelbase of 2,640mm, its steeply-raked roofline and wide front and rear tracks (respectively 28mm and 33mm wider than Mégane II). The trouble is that there’s an awful lot of unattractive satin finish plastic, especially around the infotainment screen that makes the interior feel a bit cheap overall.New Renault Mégane Hatch is designed to win over a particularly exacting clientele and combines styling cues from both the world of sport and the passion associated with cars.įrom a very early stage, Renault's Design Department worked hand in hand with the project engineers to incorporate sporty styling and robustness into Mégane's genetic make-up, and both are exuded by the new model's generously dimensioned body panels and sweeping curves. It certainly has plenty of functionality but we found the menus to be more confusing than they needed to be with many icons that were too small to hit accurately.Īs for quality, there’s plenty of soft-touch plastic and of course the luxuriant feel of velour beneath you. Our test car came with Renault’s 8.7in portrait orientated touchscreen infotainment system. Although we liked the return of velour, the faux leather felt very plasticky. ![]() As for the front, there’s ample room and the seats are nice and comfy. Leg room isn’t bad at all for the class, but head room is limited by that lowered roof line. Rear seat space isn’t bad assuming you’re not too tall. It’s also good to see no step up from the boot floor to the rear seats when they’re folded, all the better to load up on flatpack furniture. That’s not to say it isn’t practical - there are nice touches like handles to fold the rear seats in the boot, an adjustable load floor and the usual array of optional cargo restraints to make securing a variety of loads easy. The trouble is that in doing so, Renault has reduced boot capacity so it’s now a little less than an Astra Sports Tourer and significantly worse than a long-roof Octavia. Compared with the old load-lugging Mégane, the latest version sits lower and wider to emphasise the Sport aspect of its name. ![]()
